From ambition to action: Kellpla achieves energy savings with EENergy
For many manufacturing companies, sustainability is no longer a luxury, but a necessity. Yet it often remains difficult to take concrete steps, for example due to investment costs or lack of time. Thanks to the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) and the EENergy subsidy, plastic injection molding company Kellpla had the opportunity to turn plans into action. Together with EEN advisor Lanny Roest at LIOF, a successful application was made, with directly measurable results. This success story shows how targeted advice and an appropriate subsidy help entrepreneurs to become more sustainable faster.
The right match: EENergy and Kellpla
When the second round of the EENergy subsidy was announced at the beginning of 2025, Lanny Roest actively started looking for companies that could make optimal use of it. The subsidy supports SMEs with a contribution of up to €10,000 for the implementation of energy-saving measures that lead to an energy reduction of at least 5%. The scheme is therefore mainly aimed at companies where energy consumption plays a major role in business operations.
Kellpla, a technical plastic injection molding company from Venlo and a portfolio company of LIOF, proved to be a perfect match. The company already had concrete plans to make the offices more sustainable by replacing traditional lighting with LED. That existing ambition fit seamlessly with the setup of EENergy, which is specifically intended to accelerate and actually implement such plans. The interest was therefore great from the start. As Lanny Roest points out: “It was nice to see that Kellpla was immediately enthusiastic to participate in this subsidy request. There was a concrete idea to invest, and the collaboration with Gaston Dörenberg (Manager Finance) went very smoothly.”

From idea to application: working together on a strong case
After an initial meeting, Kellpla decided to further develop the application together with LIOF. Within EENergy, drawing up a concrete action plan is an important step. Companies work together with EEN advisors to gain insight into their energy consumption and to formulate targeted measures. Within the Enterprise Europe Network, French colleagues have developed their own tool for this, which creates a scan of the company’s current situation and identifies where improvements can be made.
The collaboration between the EEN advisor and the company ensures that companies not only submit a strong dossier but also actually take steps towards implementation. At Kellpla, the information from the assessment was used as the basis for the application, which was ultimately prepared by the Finance Manager themselves and submitted in coordination with the EEN advisor. By communicating clearly in advance about the process and the criteria, Kellpla knew exactly what to expect. Allocation and implementation: immediately visible result
When the news came that the subsidy had been granted, there was great joy. “I was therefore more than delighted when the news came that Kellpla had been awarded the subsidy,” said Lanny Roest. For Kellpla, this meant that the plans could be implemented immediately.
The installation of LED lighting was quickly taken up and completed in December 2025. The result was immediately visible: a 25% reduction in energy consumption. This more than met the requirements of the subsidy. Kellpla sums it up aptly: “Together with LIOF, we have been able to realize a valuable financial contribution to support our sustainability measures”
After achieving the good results, Lanny continues to support Kellpla with the reporting. Within the framework of the subsidy, this reporting is submitted to the grant provider to substantiate the results with the appropriate evidence. When determining what evidence is needed and how it can best be recorded, Kellpla consults with Lanny. If they cannot reach an agreement together, Lanny can easily forward the question to EEN colleagues within the network.
